Your holidays in Tirano in the heart of the italian Alps
Tirano is the starting point for a number of touristic activities, physical and cultural, which may vary with each season.
Nearby (200m) is the basilica (sanctuary of the apparition of Virgin Mary). and the ethnographic museum (place of the basilica, nb. 30). More info (in italian).
In Switzerland again, at 15 min. by car or accessible by the Bernina Express, the small town of Le Prese on the shores of Lake Poschiavo : beach, swimming pool, ice rink (opened from october to march). The stroll around the lake, by foot or on bicycle, is magic. More info.

With its continental climate, the Valtellina offers an enjoyable quality of life in summer. When the weather becomes hot, finding a niche a freshness is easy. By car, train, or on foot, going toward the higher part of the area will provide a colder and more ventilated environment.
Aprica (1200 m), Trivigno, the Pian di Gembro (1700 m) and the mountains of Bernina are the perfect destinations for a beautiful summer day. Later in the day, Tirano will invite a walk in the evening, visiting its many bars, and lovely restaurants serving local specialties.
A special note about Pian di Gembro, which features peat bogs, and a strange little church with a door made of an enormous tilting stone.
Sportive and leisure activities all year around in Bormio and its thermal station and summer skiing on the glacier of Stelvio (50 km).
Centrally located in the Valtellina, Tirano provides many possibilities for winter sports, without being tied to a particular station.
The prestigious stations where the winter Olympic Games of 2004 were held, Bormio, Santa Caterina Valfurva, Livigno, are located toward the high side of the valley. These stations can be reached by car or by bus. Closer to Tirano, with a more family-type setting, the nice station of Aprica (1200m) at 20km(12miles) by car or by bus. Toward Switzerland, Diavolezza and St Moritz reachable by car or using the famous little red train Bernina Express. In Switzerland also, but closer, the lovely little village of Le Prese, on the shores of Lake Posciavo, with its outdoor ice rink (from october to march) will be worth the trip.
